23 applications to investigate corruption in media
2 applications from Albania, 3 from Bosnia-Herzegovina, 3 from Croatia, 10 from Macedonia and 5 from Serbia.
Investigative journalists submitted 23 applications for the call for proposals to disclose corrupt practices undermining the proper functioning of free, independent, pluralistic and viable media in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia and Serbia. The following number of proposals was received from the eligible five countries: 2 applications from Albania, 3 from Bosnia-Herzegovina, 3 from Croatia, 10 from Macedonia and 5 from Serbia.
This call for proposals is part of the project “South East European Media Observatory – Building Capacities and Coalitions for Monitoring Media Integrity and Advancing Media Reforms” which aims at supporting integrity both in public service and commercial media in South East Europe. This call sought proposals to result in new, substantial information gained and presented through investigative journalism tools about practices and cases of corruption, clientelism and abusive, excessive control of the media by particular interests.
Individual journalists or their teams could submit their proposals till the application deadline of 15 July 2013 to the Center for Independent Journalism (CIJ), Budapest which administers the call on behalf of the project partners’ consortium.
In the upcoming weeks the selection process will take place. CIJ will review the applications for formal criteria. After the formal check, a jury will assess the applications according to the content criteria described in the call for proposals. During the evaluation period, if necessary, applicants may be requested to provide more information or clarifications on their proposals.
The judging panel will announce the decision on the investigative journalism grant awards of the South East European Media Observatory project till 15 August 2013.
