EU Award for Investigative Journalism Launched in Albania

The Albanian Media Institute launched the call for the EU award for Investigative Journalism on March 15. The award aims at celebrating and promoting outstanding achievements of investigative journalists and improving the visibility of quality investigative journalism in the Western Balkans and Turkey.

Under this call, investigative reports published between 1 January – 31 December 2016 are eligible, covering issues related to abuse of power and fundamental rights, corruption and organized crime in Albania that otherwise would not have been brought to the public's attention. This is the third year in a row that the EU Award for Investigative Journalism will be awarded in Albania, as well as in other seven countries of the Western Balkans.

The award fund in Albania in 2017 (for achievements in 2016) is 10,000 Euro. Up to three best entries will be awarded. The individual award prize ranges between 3,000 and 5,000 Euro. The contest includes the sub-category for young investigative journalists up to 35 years old. A jury of experts will be established to evaluate the proposals.

The contest will be open until April 17, 2017.
